Luke Skywalker’s Blaster Goes On Sale
Still furious with mother for donating the Star Wars toys you loved as a kid to the local charity shop during one of her spring cleans? Good news! You can avenge her decision – and all the universe’s wrongs, for that matter – by purchasing the actual blaster gun Luke Skywalker wielded across Cloud City in The Empire Strikes Back.
The only catch is that it’ll cost you somewhere in the region of $300,000 (£208,000).
The Daily Express reports that Skywalker actor Luke Hamill gave the pretend weapon to an eight-year-old British boy called Daniel on an episode of Jim’ll Fix It in 1979. It’s since made its way into the hands of a private collector, who’s putting it up for sale at Nate D. Sanders auction house in Los Angeles.
The gun – officially called a DL-44 Blaster, and based off the German Mauser C96 pistol – is said to be in good condition other than ‘one glued section’.
“This is a very rare and desirable piece of Star Wars history,” said auctioneer Sam Hellier. “Collectors will cherish Skywalker’s blaster gun, which was used in the Rebel Alliance’s battle against the evil Galactic Empire.”
If purchased at the estimated price, the DL-44 will still fall short of the most expensive movie prop ever sold – Gandalf’s staff from The Lord Of The Rings, which some die-hard fan (i.e. nutter) paid $390,000 (£245,000) for. But it would easily surpass the £240,000 (£160,000) paid in 2007 for Skywalker’s original light saber from Star Wars IV: A New Hope.
